Welcome to the Lazy Gourmet’s Blog where we will frequently provide you with tips, tricks, recipes and everything event related and so much more! Read along to learn more about us and our history!

Susan Mendelson, owner and co-founder of the Lazy Gourmet has always had a love and passion for food. Cooking, baking, entertaining, recipe building, dining out – you name it! Although Susan’s mother was a whiz in the kitchen, it was truly her grandmother that inspired her to cook. This inspiration brought her and the Lazy Gourmet to where it is today in the competitive world of catering.

In 1979, Susan and her former partner opened the Lazy Gourmet on West 4th Avenue in Vancouver as a gourmet take-out food store and catering business. A full year of hard work and dedication certainly paid off and the Lazy Gourmet was now busy and successful enough to hire a small roster of staff.

Over the years, new locations and variations of the company were opened, moved and closed. Eventually, in 1997, they all merged into one location, which is where we stand today. By this time, Susan had already made a well-known name for the nearly 2-decade-old company through her many cookbooks, bi-weekly cooking demonstrations on the “Vancouver Show”, and appearances on a national radio show called CBC Morningside.

The amalgamation of all locations to one larger building was definitely a positive move for the company, as much larger events could be accommodated. This became evident as the Lazy Gourmet landed the title of ‘Sole Caterer for the Vancouver Molson Indy’ in 1997, and also proudly held many award titles, such as “Caterer of the Year”, “Best Caterer”, and the “Consumer’s Choice Award for Business Excellence”, to name a few. These titles are still cherished by the company today as we strive to maintain our high standards.

The 2010 Vancouver Olympics came and went, leaving us with the wisdom and experience for high and fast volume capabilities, as we were granted the contracts for three major events; French House at Hycroft, GE at Robson Square, and PWC’s Company Suite. The know-how that we adopted from this once-in –a-lifetime event enabled us to land such exclusive contracts as SFU Downtown Vancouver (Harbour Centre, Goldcorp & Segal Buildings) in 2012.Once again, in 2013 we were able to showcase our expertise as the Lazy Gourmet was granted the exclusive catering rights contract for UBC Robson Square.

On top of these contracts, the Lazy Gourmet has been able to cater to large and small corporate events, business meetings, lunch and learns, weddings, dinner parties, bar and bat mitzvah’s and any other type of event you can think of, while being able to do each affair with a sense of ease and perfection.
